Yes. The City of Healdsburg requires a building permit for any re-roof that removes existing material down to the deck, and inspections are required at sheathing and final. We pull every permit on your behalf and coordinate the inspection schedule.
Much of Healdsburg — particularly Fitch Mountain, the upper West Side, and rural parcels in Dry Creek and Alexander Valley — falls inside CAL FIRE's Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone. That triggers Chapter 7A building requirements, which in plain English means a Class A roof assembly and ember-resistant attic venting.
Untreated wood shakes are not allowed on new construction or full re-roofs in the high fire zones around Healdsburg. If you currently have a shake roof, you can repair it in limited fashion, but most insurance carriers will require replacement at renewal.
