It's 6:30 a.m. after a Pineapple Express drops three inches overnight. There's water on the bedroom ceiling. The neighbor's eucalyptus came down across your back slope. Or maybe it's quieter — you noticed a stain that wasn't there last winter and want to know whether it's a $400 repair or a $20,000 problem.
We do all of those calls. Same day for emergencies, scheduled assessments for the rest.
Overview
Most roof repairs in Sonoma County fall into a small set of patterns. We've done thousands across Healdsburg, Santa Rosa, Sebastopol, Petaluma, and the rural areas in between, and the same handful of failure modes account for the vast majority of leaks. Targeted repair work — done right — extends a roof's useful life by years and is almost always cheaper than the panic decision to fully replace.
Common Issues We See
Flashing failures (about half of all calls)
Pipe boots crack. Step flashing at sidewalls separates. Chimney counter-flashing pulls away. Skylight curbs leak at the corners. The shingles or panels around the failure usually look fine — the problem is the metal-and-sealant detail at the penetration.
Valley leaks
Open valleys with debris buildup, closed valleys with worn underlayment, woven valleys that were never the right call. Valley repairs require pulling shingles back beyond the leak point and rebuilding the assembly with proper ice-and-water shield.
Wind damage
Diablo wind events and the 50–60 mph gusts that come through with major storms lift shingles, tear ridge cap, and occasionally peel back entire sections. We do a lot of wind-event response work, especially around fall and after atmospheric river storms.
Animal damage
Squirrels chew at soft fascia. Raccoons pry up loose shingles. Woodpeckers go after rotted barge boards. We see this most in west county and along the Russian River corridor where tree canopy is heavy.
Emergency vs. Planned Repair
Two different responses depending on urgency:
Emergency (active leak, exposed deck, fallen tree)
Call (707) 232-8622. We aim for same-day or next-morning emergency tarping anywhere in Sonoma County. Once the area is dried-in, we schedule the actual repair within the next 1–7 days based on weather and complexity.
Planned (slow drip, suspicious stain, post-storm checkup)
We schedule a free assessment within a few days, walk the roof, photograph the issue, and provide a written repair quote. Most planned repairs go from estimate to completion within 2–3 weeks.
Our Process
- Phone or online intake — describe what you're seeing.
- On-site assessment, attic check where accessible, photo documentation.
- Written line-item repair estimate (or stabilization estimate for emergencies).
- Material sourcing — we keep common shingle and flashing stock on hand for fast turnaround.
- Repair execution — typically a half-day to one-day visit.
- Final walk-through, written workmanship warranty on the repaired area.
Pricing
Most targeted repairs in Sonoma County fall in the $400–$2,500 range — pipe boot replacement, valley flashing rebuild, ridge cap repair, partial shingle replacement. Larger storm or fallen-tree damage with structural decking repair can run $3,000–$8,000+. Emergency tarping alone is typically $300–$700.

Frequently Asked Questions
How fast can you get to an emergency?
Same day or next morning for active leaks, exposed deck, or fallen-tree damage anywhere in Sonoma County. We carry tarps, plywood, and emergency stock on the truck for stabilization while we scope the full repair.
Do you charge for repair estimates?
Free for standard repair assessments. We charge only for detailed engineering-level documentation reports (insurance disputes, real estate transactions) — and that fee is refundable if you proceed with the repair.
Can you match my existing shingle?
Usually. If the manufacturer is still in production and we can identify the line, we get a near-perfect match. For older or discontinued shingles, we pull from the closest available substitute and can often find leftover stock from regional suppliers.
When is repair not worth it?
When the surrounding shingles are already at end of life. Repairing a 24-year-old asphalt roof is usually throwing good money after bad — the patch will outlast the rest. We tell homeowners that directly when we see it.
Will my insurance cover storm-damage repairs?
Often, yes — if the damage is from a covered event (wind, falling tree). We document storm damage in the format most carriers want and can meet adjusters on-site. See our insurance claims guide for the full process.
What's the warranty on a repair?
Two-year written workmanship warranty on most targeted repairs, covering the repaired area against leaks and material failure under normal conditions.
